Peter W. Spoto

Peter W. Spoto has resided in the University Hills district of El Sereno, Los Angeles since 1990. Prior to living in Los Angeles, he spent time in Highland Park & San Leandro, CA, Manhattan & Westchester County, NY, Seoul, Tokyo, New Orleans & Baton Rouge, LA and grew up on the Florida Gulf Coast during his childhood.

His family hails from a culinary, and food & wine-imbued tradition whose roots begin in Sicily and Cuba. Having grown up around Italian Nonnas (Nanas in Sicilian) & Cuban Abuelitas, Arroz con pollo and Caponata became household words in the Spoto household. From this ethos, the Spoto siblings created a family of seafood restaurants in South Florida, setting the stage for his segue into the world of wine.

Moving from an earlier career teaching in local catholic primary schools, and doing teaching & research at the University of Southern California, he was smitten by wine after his numerous visits to Wine Country throughout California.

In the summer of 2013, Spoto studied at the International Culinary Center in Campbell, CA and completed the Intensive Wine Sommelier training program at ICC. He passed the Introductory Sommelier Exam offered by the Court of Master Sommeliers shortly after graduation, and passed all three modules of the Court’s Certified Exam in 2013 and 2014.

Prior to his recent return to Southern California, he was the director of wine education, the house sommelier, and a dedicated server on the floor at Spoto’s Oyster Bar, Palm Beach Gardens for four years.

Peter’s passion for sharing the world of wine and food with our community is second-to-none. Prepare yourself to embark on an unforgettable journey into a new world, and be prepared to open your culinary & olfactory senses up to the next level!
